AGM at 7.45pm followed by a free concert at about 9pm
Richmond Concert Society is proud to continue an annual event which allows subscribers to be involved in the creation of new music.
Students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) are invited to submit compositions to a reviewing panel. The chosen composer is commissioned to write a new piece, especially for the Richmond Concert Society, to be performed by an ensemble of GSMD musicians.
The ensemble will perform a short concert after the AGM, in which the new composition will be featured along with established repertoire.
This year’s winning composer is Thomas Carling. You may have seen him featured in the current issue of Choir & Organ magazine. Performers will be Jake Muffett, baritone, and the Summer Quartet.
The programme will be:
Beethoven
String Quartet in B flat, Op. 18 No. 6
Samuel Barber
Dover Beach, for baritone and string quartet
Thomas Carling
Summer, for baritone and string quartet
This initiative has been made possible by a bequest from Mary Ryan. The winning composer receives the <a href=”http://demo.richmondconcerts.co.uk/the-mary-ryan-composition-award/”>Mary Ryan Richmond Concert Society Composition Award</a>, bringing with it not only a financial incentive but, perhaps more importantly, a performance before an appreciative and enthusiastic audience.
