Schumann:
Piano Trio in G minor, Op.110
Beethoven:
Piano Trio in E flat, Op.70 No.2

Described by Alfred Brendel as ‘among the finest [trios], properly balanced and with a delightful twist of its own’, the award-winning Astatine Trio has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young ensembles.

They were named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists for 2025-27, which has seen them continue to tour and record extensively across the UK. The upcoming season features performances at Wigmore Hall, Ettlingen, Snape Maltings, and their debut in Elbphilharmonie’s Laeiszhalle, alongside broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and SWR Radio.
In 2025, they won second prize and the special prize at the Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition in Graz – becoming the first UK-based ensemble to win a main prize in the competition’s history. Shortly after they were selected as Kirckman Concert Society Artists and awarded the prestigious RPS Henderson Chamber Ensemble Award.

The trio’s approach has been greatly shaped by the mentorship of legendary pianist Alfred Brendel, who upon first hearing invited them to work regularly with him from 2022. They are now mentored by Anthony Marwood MBE through ChamberStudio London, who awarded them their inaugural fellowship. As members of the European Chamber Music Academy they have been selected to play at showcases in Wigmore Hall and Budapest’s Solti Hall, and they were invited to attend the 2025 IMS Prussia Cove masterclasses in the class of Sir Thomas Adès. The trio are also deeply grateful for the regular guidance of David Waterman and Prach Boondiskulchok.

They are current Hans Keller Chamber Fellows at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a resident ensemble at ProQuartet – Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre in Paris for 2025-2027.
Passionate advocates for new music, the trio has been consistently commended for their approach to the contemporary repertoire. They received the SEAM Prize for contemporary music at the 2023 Lyon International Chamber Competition, in which they were the youngest finalists. They also gave the premiere of a new piano trio by Timothy Salter in June 2025 – written especially for the group – and will premiere a new trio by Karen Tanaka in April 2027.

Early accolades include first prizes at the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Competition, Virtuoso & Belcanto International Chamber Competition (Italy) and the Senior Intercollegiate Piano Trio Competition in 2022. They subsequently made their Wigmore Hall debut and were named Britten Pears Young Artists for 2023-24.

The trio is thankful to ChamberStudio, the Piano Trio Society, Maggie Grimsdell (Music at Longhill Road), Philip Carne and the Nicholas Boas Charitable Trust for their generous support.
